Ontario Announces Reduced Gathering Limits to Combat Omicron
This afternoon, the Government of Ontario announced restrictions to combat the new Omicron variant which has been rapidly spreading across the province.
As of 12:01 AM Sunday, across Ontario, the maximum number of people who can attend an organized public gathering or social gathering indoors will be reduced from 25 people to 10. The number of people who may attend an outdoor gathering will be reduced from 100 to 25.
Condominium corporations must ensure that these limits are followed:
Indoor amenities, such as gyms, party rooms, libraries, pools, may not have more than 10 people at one time.
Outdoor amenities, such as shared terraces, should not have more than 25 people at one time.
These changes do not mean that Boards are required to keep amenities open, or that they are required to reopen amenities at these limits. Boards retain discretion to keep these spaces open or closed based on the circumstances in the community.
The Government also announced reduced capacity limits that will affect businesses and places that are open, like restaurants and bars. These restrictions do not generally affect condominium corporations, except where an amenity space is being used like a business or place that is open. For example, if an event held in a party room is catered with waiters and bartenders, the reduced capacity limits, and other restrictions for restaurants, such as proof of vaccination, would apply.
