Confirmed: Condominium Amenities May Remain Open
In response to our inquiries, our office has now received written confirmation from a senior representative in the Ontario Minister of Health’s office confirming that the recent reinstatement of Step 2 safety measures requiring closure of gyms, swimming pools and other indoor recreational amenities does not apply to residential condominiums, as they are considered private residences. This has been the Ministry’s interpretation throughout the pandemic, and confirms the approach expressed in our newsletter from this past Tuesday. As such, each condominium corporation may decide whether to keep their amenities open or to close them, based on what may be best for their condominium community and, as always, subject to applicable gathering limits and all other required safety measures. We thank the government for providing clarity on this issue.
