Congratulations to Audrey Loeb!

The following citation was read at a special Convocation of the Law Society of Ontario on the sixth day of June 2022.

Treasurer, may I present to you and this Convocation, Audrey Loeb, and request that you confer upon her the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa.

Called to the Bar in 1974, a time when few women were entering the legal profession and finding opportunities for a young Jewish woman lawyer was challenging, she became a trailblazer as she established herself as one of Canada’s pre-eminent experts in condominium law.

She is a partner at Shibley Righton LLP and co-leader of its Condominium Practice Group.

Respectfully dubbed "the Condo Queen," Audrey Loeb is a lawyer, educator, author of two texts on Condominium Law, and consumer advocate. She was and continues to be instrumental in the development of condominium law from its earliest days in Ontario and is one of the foremost advocates for condominium law reform. She is passionately committed to improving the experience for those buying and living in condominiums in Ontario.

Her dedication and contributions to the legal profession and community at large are numerous. As Professor Emeritus of Law, she spent 28 years teaching at Metropolitan Toronto (formerly Ryerson) University’s School of Business Management. Audrey Loeb is a frequent lecturer for the Law Society of Ontario and the Ontario Bar Association. She has offered her time and expertise to a wide range of boards, government agencies and organizations.  She served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation and was the founder and Chair of the Weekend to End Breast Cancer, the two day walk to end Breast Cancer which is now known as the Princess Margaret Hospital “Walk to Conquer Cancer.”

Among her many recognitions is the Law Society Medal in 2008, the Ontario Bar Association Award of Excellence in Real Estate in 2008, Osgoode Hall Law School Alumni Gold Key Award for professional achievement in 2012, and the Order of Ontario in 2019.

Audrey Loeb exemplifies the best the legal profession has to offer and is deserving of the highest honour this Society can bestow and I ask you to confer upon her the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa.
